Client brief: Double storey extension creating...

  • First floor: Master bedroom with vaulted ceiling - dressing room and en-suite
  • Ground floor: Family room with bathroom
  • Total build area 100 square metres.

Extension built to our plans package...Building works from start to finish, approximate time scale 4 months. The builders move in This is the worst part, you're beautiful garden is excavated and starts to looks a real mess.

The concrete foundations are poured and a few weeks later the walls rise out of the ground. These photos shows a cavity wall being constructed up to damp proof course level. The wall is 280mm wide. After the DPC the cavity is filled with insulation all the way up to roof eaves level.

The outside wall is built out of solid concrete blocks and the inside skin is built out   of lightweight insulation blocks.

Ground floor joists are then fixed Resting on the internal lightweight blocks and on top of the DPC. Similarly at first floor level Walls are then built up from DPC level and openings are created for doors and windows. Lintels are built into the cavity wall to support loadings above.
